Just like when you could read something through magnifying glass and it could look bigger and could look smaller. This is due to a phenomenon known as lenses! Lenses are optical instruments that act by refracting light rays in a manner that alters the perception of the object. Depending on how they are built, they make objects seem nearer or distant. So today we are going to look into a specific type of lens known as plano concave lens and how it works and in which field it is used.
The plano concave cylindrical lens is a specific type of lens. It has a straight edge and a rounded edge. What that means is that it bends light in a specific way when you look through it. The curved side is almost cylinder shaped, or like a gigantic tube. This figure means that if you look at the lens from one face-side the lens appears flat, but when you look from the opposite face-side it appears to have a rounded shape. This contour has maximum thickness at the periphery and minimum thickness in the center. This shape allows it to be very effective at altering the profile of light rays that propagate through it.
These are some of the highlights of the lenses which broadly can correct the light beams which can give unwanted distortion effects. This aids, in clearer images being made.
Curvature: The curvature of the lens is also a factor to consider. This is going to vary based on the shape of the light beam which you want to be corrected. Application wise, a different curvature is required.
Lens Material: The lens material is also an important aspect. Think about what temperatures this will be exposed to, and whether it is suitable for the equipment you use it with.
Plano concave cylindrical lenses manipulate light rays. When you look through one, it can give an illusion of the light source appearing closer or farther in distance than it actually is. On the other hand, the curvature of the lens changes and directs the light rays in one direction so that they can be concentrated.
The level of curvature is critical as it governs the extent to which the lines of that light will converge. In optics, this distance is known as the focal length. For instance, plano concave cylindrical lenses are widely used to change the shape of laser beams. Such beams are able to play a key role in the field of, for example medicine, manufacturing and even exploration of space.
