Rainbows are so pretty! Have you ever spotted one in the atmosphere post-storm? These look like brightly colorful clouds in the sky. Rainbows are called a “prism” by scientists, because they bend the light into a lovely arc of colors. Just like magic, a prism can change the light and it is a special piece of the spectrum of light. But you know what else has this cool superpower to do just that — produce colored light? It’s stained glass! That’s right! Stained glass consists of a lot of tiny prisms that function perfectly to create gorgeous light patterns that can make any place a beautiful place to be.
A ray of sunlight making its way through a colored glass window scatters in diverse colors. Just like a prism produces a rainbow. Picture sunlight streaming in and exploding into all those hues! A stained glass window, for example, consists of many smaller pieces of glass called panes. It's a collage of differently colored and shaped panes that form a beautiful landscape for the world to come and gaze at together. Those dark lines in between the panes are referred to as lead cames. It is vital to get this clean seal lined up tight enough so that the panes do not splinter apart and can be gazed at for decades!

Stained glass art is a lot like learning an instrument or a sport; it requires a fair amount of patience and practice.
Well, stained glass is a lot more difficult than it seems! The first step, ofcourse, is an amazing design. When you want to cut a colored glass piece, first, you have to draw the shape you would like to cut onto a piece of paper. This is so important as this will be a map for you. And then you take that piece of paper and carefully trace a cutout of the glass. After you cut all the pieces out, you puzzle them together! It is like a humorous game of jamming pieces together. After which you use lead cames to bind it all tightly together. At the end, you will have an awesome colored windows, the stained glass window, and you can be proud of it!
Take a closer look at a stained glass window. If we look through it the image on the other side appears to be different in a colorful way!! You see the small bits of glass that make up the photo too. This is like seeing through prism! You can observe how the light passes through all of them and makes different colors shimmer and twinkle. You can even see each pane from the others in terms of color, texture if you look really closely. This adds to the allure and artistry of the stained glass window.
Hundreds of years old un stained glass! It boasts a history that is both rich and unique. Alabaster, a white mineral that has been commonly used to create window patterns and lamps since ancient times. After their interests and skills grew they decided to use colored glass to make more attractive pieces. These are the same methods used to create beautiful stained glass art today. However, more recently, new technology is used too, for example, stained glass made by a computer. They are able to create pictures that are beautiful on a computer and then be able to print them out of a particular printer that has the ability to create glass-like effects. Either by the hand or with the help of tech, stained glass will always be a great medium that adds the element of colour and light into our existence.
